Members, I hope you can help with your knowledge or add insite to this highly accurate Remington 30 that challenges my scoped 30-06 out to target resolution! The accuracy claims with modern ammunition may be of no surprise to the forum, but is a very pleasant surprise to me and debunks quite a bit of high tech at the range. I would like to know how old this rifle may be ('21-'25?) and if the barrel is unusual in its markings, or is simply routine for the era. Thank you for your help.
Barrel length- 22"
Overall length of rifle ~ 42.25"
Stock - plain, no cheek comb or figuring, longer finger grip drop than the 30 Express from photos
Caliber: 30-06, not marked anywhere on the barrel or firearm.
Sights
-Rear- Lyman 48 pat# July 11-1911. Probably retrofitted unless other examples exist.
-Front- Blade labeled "Pacific".
-Action- unmodified cock on lock
Barrel markings:
Remington Trademark
SN: 2922
Stamps and markings on barrel:
Top position fore of SN, no text where you would normally see Remington 30 Express, 30S or such. Just the following symbols and numbers:
1 Bomb stamp
3 individual "side view eagle head" stamps. Labeled J1, J2, J1C.
Number "22" stamped fore center.
Bottom position at muzzel end:
"upside down" L.
Circle stamp with "VP" in the center.
Small triangle below that with what appears to be a vertile line punch mark within.
Circle stamp with a triangle in the center, then a smaller circle within that triangle.
I can send photos if it will help.
Thank you. New member learning along the way, the Remington way.
