And the letters L Z on the side of the barrel

Introduced in 1972, the Model 870 LW in 20 ga., characterized by its scaled-down receiver and mahogany stocks. It was made available in both standard and magnum models. Your shotgun, sn T0983** was part of the 1975 production run.
