Re: Model 12 C problem
Is your 12-A a earlier serial number then your 12-C. If it was a replaced barrel it would have a 2 stamped on the barrel if it was done by a gunsmith, or a 3 if done by the factory.

[quote="Laguna442"]There is a 3 stamped on the bottom of the barrel under the magazine tube about 3 inches from the receiver. Wissners lists the transition at 660000 and only for 12-C rifles. I am wondering if it went in for repairs was rebarreled and fitted with a late retainer? Does anyone know if a late model 12-C has a groove? I'm getting a good size pile of disassembled 12's here

I don't have my reference material here in AZ, but I remember that there were four different retainers used on the M/12 plus one for the 12CS. The CS usually has a triangle stamped on it. One of my projects when I return to Oregon in April will be to see when they changed and if any of them will interchange..

That's my kind of gunsmithing. That's exactly how I would solve it. Buy all three and see which one fits!!! I love it!!!
