Explain Redfield 1 piece base

Post by 64Nylon66 »

I have recently bought a couple of older Redfield 1 piece scope bases in order to get the flip up peep sight feature. When these units arrive they do not come with instructions. I am curious as to what the large slotted head screws function is on the rear of the base. There are 2 screws at the rear of the base opposite from each other. If they are adjusting screws for windage/elevation how do they work after having been tightened down with the top screw that goes through the base and into the rear of the receiver? Maybe a simple question but I am not familiar with this set up. Thanks for any/all replies. Richard (Nylon66).

They're for securing the rear scope ring. The square-ish slot in the front of the base is where the (bottom of the) front scope ring twists into and the rear ring is held in place by those opposing screws.
