Remington 7mm Grade 4 custom

Post by casper50 »

A very good friend of mine dropped off a Remington 7mm Grade 4 custom rifle today. He wants me to do some research on it to include rarity and value. He bought it new in 1984 and it has been in the safe ever since. I can only find two very tiny handling marks in the wood and one of them is in the checkering. I've never handled a 25 year old original gun in this nice of shape. any and all help greatly appreciated. Sn = B6728102 Thanks

The Remington 700 Grade 4 was available with your pick of any option. You could get them in any caliber, 18.5 to 24" barrels, polished or matte finish on the barrel and action, either California Claro American or English walnut stocks, Monte carlo or straight comb stock, with or without white-line spacers, forend cap and crossbolt lugs in ebony or rosewood, ebony or rosewood grip cap, solid or skeleton steel grip cap, high gloss or satin handrubbed oil stock, or straight line point pattern, ribbon or fleur-de-lis pattern checkering, You could even get a personalized 10KT gold nameplate. It appears that the one in the picture has a matte finish barrel and a oil rubbed stock. In my opinion it may hurt the demand for it because typically the people that buy these kind of rifles would want the bright bluing and the hi-gloss stock. Rarity I would not say its real high because anyone can order this from the custom shop. The thing that would make this rifle a little scarce is its an investment and not a rifle that most people buy, and not a rifle that most peopl buy and use. With that said it really does not suprise me that its in good shape. I have seen some hi-grade Remingtons that are 100 years old or more that are knocking on the door of mint condition. I dont know if he is looking to sell, and I believe if he did buy it new at the custom shop price in 1984 he made a good little investment. From my experience from what I have seen rifles like this sell for in what I know are 98-99% condition guns for about $4000.00 to $4500.00. Certain scarce or more desirable calibers like the 222, 222 mag, 6mm rem, 6.5 rem mag would possibly bring more.

I can sell you a 721 f grade that they only ever made 13 of them for $5999.00, but its not selling its just sitting and sitting. I would have guess he paid less then that in 84, but I guess i was wrong.
