Remington Model 12 Rifle???

Post by wats818 »

I have an old rifle that I inherited from my father. From my research it appears to be a model 12. The top left side of the barrel simply says 22 Rem. Special. On the top of the octangonel barrel it lists, "Pederson's Patents Jan 5, 1909, Oct 12, 1909, Mar 8, 1910, Nov 21, 1911, Apr 16, 1912. I cannot find a model number anywhere, but on the bottom of the rifle, underneath the chamber there appears to be a serial number 247140.

Can anyone help me identify the age of this rifle and anything else relevant to this rifle?

You say its marked 22 Rem. special. That meens you have a Remington model 12-CS. They were first chambered in this caliber in 1914. It is also the same thing as the 22 WRF. We would at least need a serial number to give you a rough idea on what year yours were made. The model stampings were not always on the gun. I believe I have at least 3 differant model 12-CS stampings and some not even stamped as well.

Thanks for your reply. Is the number on the bottom of the rifle (247140), underneath the chamber a serial number? There is a small RW stamped just above the stamped number, which is located underneath the chamber and just about 2 inches towards the barrel end of the rifle from the trigger.

Your rifle was made in 1914. RW stands for Remington Works. Great Rifle!

Hi, I am new to the site so I hope my request is not in appropriate.
I bought a remington 12cs which is of course a rem. 22 special. The original cartridge tube follower was replaced with one for a standard 22 cartridge, I suppose to make it appear complete!!
Gun shows frown upon trial loading and firing at the show so, I never found out about the problem for a few days. Does anyone have any ideas on where I could find a tube for this great old gun??
thanks so much for your help.

There has been one on gunbroker.com now for quite a while. I believe its $59.95. Kind of high, but I guess if you need one. I have always found it by searching remington model 12. If I get a chance when I get home I will try to post the item no. If you find it let me know and I hope it works out.
