MODEL 12 HELP

Post by JRH0079 »

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me date my model 12. The serial number is 824719. The interesting thing is that according to the web site the serial numbers for the model 12 ran from 00001 to 820,759. There is also what I believe to be the date code of "EZ" stamped into the left side of the barrel. If I read this correctly it is the date of Oct. 1931? There is also what appears to be a heart stamped on the right side of the barrel and a few random markings on the bottom of the barrel. Can someone help me figure this out?

October 1931 is correct. According to Rem serial # records yours should have been made in 1935. That difference is not unusual since the receivers were not used in chronological order. The date code is the assembly date and should be considered as the date of manufacture. They were numbered and used as needed from inventory. My records show M/12s were given serial #s in excess of 831,000. The other stamps are proof and testing stamps.

It looks like you have a 3 stamped on the barrel. That meens at sometime it was sent back to the factory for repair. That maybe the reason your serial no. and date code do not click.
