I purchased a Rem 700 "carbine" recently. The barrel states "Remington 700".
There is no magazine opening so it is blank.
It has a 19" barrel in .243 Winchester. The left side barrel markings are "DR AX" so I believe it is mfgd in 2003 or 2004. The barrel is what I would call a bull barrel.
I cannot find any reference to a 19" barrel except for military use but do not think this is a military model. Any thoughts? I can email photos if needed. Any inputs are much appreciated.

Re: Remington 700, 19" barrel
The pictures you sent were a little blurry. The 20 inch barrels on the 700s measured 19" from the tip of the barrel to the front of the action. Your additional inch is the threads that you do not see. I measured some of mine to be sure. I didnt have any as new as yours, but mine measured 19" as well. It appears yours is a 700 ADL model. I am not sure if the finish on the metal is factory. It looked to be parkerized with a wood stock.

Thx David, I had not considered the length of the threads. That would indeed make it 20". Is that fairly rare for the thick/bull 20" bbl?
The finish is parkerized and is factory. This rifle does not appear to have be fired much at all. There are no wear marks.
I appreciate the time you took to reply and help a Remington newbie.

Well I don't about the heavier barrel. Most of the time there just standard barrels they just look heavier because there cut shorter. I don't know much about the new 700s my interest is the older ones. The only thing that makes me wonder is that its a 20" barrel and not a 22". It would leave me to believe it maybe a youth model that a regular stock was added. The parkerized finish with a wood stock. I don't meen to sound stupid if I am wrong I just don't follow the new guns.
