WTN Remington Model 11 U.S. Flaming bomb

Post by johnmac »

My buddy has a Remington Model 11 with no stocks checkering and with U.S. and Bomb stamped on the left receiver side near the top. Model 11 is stamped on the bolt side at the ejection port.
It has a pheasant scene engraved on the right receiver side and a Duck marsh scene on the left receiver side. No barrel rib, barrel length about 27-28"
I can't find reference to this model in the Bluebook and wonder if you could tell us what it is exactly, year made and some idea of value.

Thanks for your help!j :?:

Two replys on this subject from the Shotgunworld board --

The War Department bought up loads of 12-gauge shotguns at the start of WW-II for use as guard guns and lots of Skeet guns for use in aerial gunnery training, teaching recruits to lead moving targets. Remington Model 11, Sportsman, and Model 31; Ithaca Model 37; as well as Winchester Model 12 and 97 are really fairly common with military markings. Lots of them were still in use at Military Skeet ranges when I was in -- 1968 to 1980.

The Sportsman and M11 was the most common military shotgun in WWII. They were found with regular blue and varnished stocks with engraving and with a dull Military Finish and plain stocks. The Military Sportsman was only seen in without the Military Finish, according to Pat Redmond.

Serial # should be in the 450,000-500,000 and 700,000 -711,000.
