Rem 700 hinged floorplate for 721B

Post by Trooper »

I was given a model 721B. I'd like to know if I can convert the blind magazine to the BDL hinged floorplate since the 721 has a removable cover and there is a hole on the bottom of the stock for the magazine. I want to keep all of the part but the trigger guard looks very cheap on a gun that has nice wood.

Brownells sells this kit - http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ ... BDL%20KITS

Thanks in advance.

I have fit hinged floorplate assemblies into 721 and 722 stocks several times. Also added floorplates to model 700 ADL to make the like BDL. Very carefully cut the wood to fit the new floorplate. If you are not skilled and equipped for this, don't try it yourself.
All you need is the floorplate. You can cut down the 721 magazine box, and re-use the follower. I usually fit allen head screws at the same time.

Thanks for the response. My end desire it to replace the trigger guard and, while doing so, replace the floorplate so it is more like a BDL. If I understand what you are saying I only need the floorplate if I don't replace the triggerguard. Is this correct?

You need a floorplate assembly. If you are real good with wood chisels and a hacksaw, go for it. Outline the cuts in the wood and carefully chisel away. The magazine box only needs to be shortened. Cut it long and finish with file to fit. Cold blue the cut edge. Acraglass under the floorplate at the screw holes if need be. Urethane the exposed wood. You might pillar bed the rifle too.

Rem725,

Thanks for the clarification. This will be my post hunting season project. I am trying to get everything together now so I have what I need.

I would like to take a deer with the 721 and send a photo to the gentleman who gave me this rifle. He is in his late 70's with some health issues and had to give up hunting.

Thanks again.
