I have an E. Remington & sons Double Barrel 12 Ga with plain barrels.
The barrels break down with a lever on back that you push up. on the water table there is a stamp that has patent dates Aug 8 1871 and Apr 16 1872. the serial number is 1555. can any one tell me the the proximate date of manufacture? thank you.

Your gun appears to be a Model 1875. They were made from 1875 to 77, and your serial number falls right in the middle of the observed range for Model 1875s.
