After Cleaning 1100 won't fire

Post by CastinBlast »

After doing a thorough cleaning of my kid's 1100 LT-20 Mag the gun won't fire. The cleaning consisted of removing the trigger mech. (which I have done before) and the slide action arm and bolt. This is the first time I have had the bolt out on this gun. After cleaning and reassembling the feed latch fell out but I put it back in and then put the trigger mech. back in and then put in the slide arm and bolt. When the gun was test fired, click no bang, I can see the hammer hitting the firing pin on the bolt and when I dry fire it with my thumb over the firing pin I can feel the firing pin hit my thumb. When it is test fired with a live round the primer doesn't show any sign of being hit by the firing pin. As far as I can tell the bolt is all the way closed. I'm really confused. Any Ideas?

Thanks,

C&B

Since the "Feed Latch" came loose, it needs to be staked back in place (special tool recommended). So now would be a good time to take it to a repair center. One other thing you might want to check is the "firing pin". Remove the bolt and look through the bottom to see if the pin is broken (if you didn't already). I've seen more than one 870 shoot even with a broked firing pin untill the two pieces misaligned. The feed latch is timed with other parts and by Remington standards must be staked in place (Remington Field Service Manual). Unless you are an armorer or gunsmith I wish you would get the firearm in the hands of one. Be safe, and good luck.

The feed latch does not have to be staked in place, it just makes it much easier to disassemble and reassemble the gun. With the trigger group in place and the trigger pins installed, the location of the latch is fixed. I have one Superglued in place.
As I said on the other board, I suspect Tommy is right.
What could have happened... did.
