Model 12 help
Hello everyone,
I just picked me up a nice little model 12, round barrel. Which from the researched seen its a 12a? What I was looking for was a date is was made. The only numbers I see are RW 1559. The number is also etched on the side of the Lower receiver(for a lack of other words).
My next question is there some where that i can look a takedown sheet, it has been taken apart and cartridge retainer is out of it, i am not quite sure how it goes back in.

Re: Model 12 help
BKN, Your model 12 was made sometime at the beginning of 1915. It looks like someone tried to jewel the action on it. I noticed you have a round barrel with a pistol grip cresent butt stock. Those items did not com together. With your pictures I can not tell if you have a 12-C with maybe a replacement barrel or a 12-A with a replaced stock. Send more photos. Do all the serial numbers match?

Re: Model 12 help
Yes that is a model 12 magazine band. It appears someone put a 12-C stock on a 12-A barrel. Are there any numbers stamped on the side of the barrel? A NO. 3 or 5.
Re: Model 12 help
I did find a letter S on the pump action, and on the barrel I found what looks like a maybe 7 w or m 2 ,depending on which way you look at it. It looks like they tried to stamp it a couple times.

Re: Model 12 help
I believe the "2" indicates a "parts order barrel" from Remington. The top part (facing the barrel) of the fore end would have a flat portion if the rifle originally had an octagon barrel. The fore end on a round barrel is rounded to match the contour of the barrel. The date code stamps are hard to read. "W" would be 1928. "WW" would be August 1928.
