Model 4 Rolling Block 22 Cal

Post by Chukpike »

I have a Model 4 Rolling block 22 Cal. rifle. It fires long and short rounds. The s/n is J256304. I contacted Remington and they indicated the rifle was manufactured about 1919. The rifle is in good condition but needs care. This was my grandfathers rifle and I do not intend to sell it. I have two subjects to ask about.

1. I think the firing pin is possibly stuck in the forward position. If I drive the retaining pin out to remove the firing pin can I reuse the retaining pin? I think, yes but would like some guidance. I would also be interested in diagrams or parts pictures.

2. The finish on the stock is worn in places and I would like to refinish it. I would like to know what the original finish was?
Is it tung oil or boiled linseed? It does not appear to be any type of varnish. I have refinished furniture with tung oil with spectacular results, but takes time and patients.

Thanks for the reply on the wood.

Anyone know whether this rifle had a return spring around the firing pin? I freed up the pin with Break Free gun cleaner and oiled the pin. If no spring I won't have to remove the pin.

Thanks,
