Model 24 Identification

Post by wilson45 »

I'm having a hard time identifying the serial# on a Model 24. Here's what I know - its a .22 short, doesn't have "Browning" stamped anywhere, has a 19" barrel, and underneath the barrel is stamped "994". There is another mark stamped after the "4", but I can't tell if it is a number. I would like to know the year this rifle was made.
Thanks,

The 994 will be your serial no. It will be stamped on the bottom of the barrel just in front of the forend. Your gun bearing the serial no. would have been made in early 1922.

Thank you. Do you have any idea what the stamp mark is that appears after the "4"? It looks like a circle, but is isn't a "O". Also, on the left side of the barrel farthest from the muzzle, a small "PN" is stamped. Do you know what this is?

P N is the date code. It meens your gun was made in June of 1922. The other stamping I dont know without seeing it, but it maybe a inspectors stamp or proof mark.
