Help identifying Model 700 .222

Post by Foxer9R »

Sorry for the repost, first post was in shotgun forum by accident.

Hi Y'all,

I'm getting ready to sell a Model 700 .222 Rem. that I picked up at an estate sale about a year ago. The metal is about 99% and wood about 95%. I've been trying to identify the model year using the barrel code but all I can see on the left side is the proof mark with a stamped "A" to the right and the number 26 stamped to the upper right of the A. The stock is ebony tipped with white spacing material (birch?) between the stock forend tip, bottom pistol grip, and buttstock. It's not an Al buttstock. The serial number is B6255501. Any help to the model year would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Grant

You need to give a little bit more information. You have a BDL model obviously. What kind of checkering does it have. Are there spades within the checkering. Does it have a ribbon pattern running through the checkering? Does it have cut checkering? Skip line checkering? Does it have an aluminum or plastic butt plate?

Thanks for the questions Remington. I appologize for the lack of description, I'm still somewhat a noob when it comes to gun collecting.

The are no spades in the checkering. There are larger diamond checkers patterened in with the smaller ones. Is this indicative of a ribbon pattern? I would guess that it is cut checkering. The butt plate is black plastic.

Let me continue to amend my original post. With a little research, I've found it has got a skipped line checkered walnut stock (high gloss). The bolt has also been jeweled.

Your rifle was assembled in late 1980.
