In the early 1940's my father-in-law, Lynn M Caldwell Jr worked for Remington Arms in Ilion. While he was there he submitted an idea for a new rifling system to meet wartime production needs. He stated that even though he left to join the Navy (submarine service) he received royalties for ten years for his idea. He also did small caliber exhibition shooting for Remington. I recently found the company acknowledgement for his rifling suggestion along with a couple of rifling jigs. I was wondering just what system was used by Remington for wartime production? Could these jigs be the new system the history books speak about and would the museum be interested in them and the acknowledgement of his suggestion? Any information would be appreciated.

Remington WW2 rifling changes
Re: Remington WW2 rifling changes
Not sure, but 03A3's made by Rem and Smith-Corona had two groove rifling, the rifling pattern eliminated two ofthe normal 4 grooves and thus speeded barrel production. Don't know if this was a Rem idea or not, but see if the rifling jigs are for only cutting two grooves.
