Model 17 questions

Post by rooster »

Hey, New guy with a couple of questions.

I just picked up a Model 17, I have searched the net and found an abundance of manufacture date info. The only problem is the only number I find on the left side of the barrel in front of the receiver doesnt conform. On the left side of the barrel the only markings are "FULL" which is I'm sure the choke and underneath this a five digit code of both letters and numbers ""PZ3BT" From what I have seen the first two could mean June of 1931 (If I remember everything I've looked up correctly) but have no clue as to the next few digits/numbers mean. I dont even know if this is in fact the date code or not, but its the only set of numbers in the area where the date code is supposed to be. The serial number of the gun is in the 32XXX range.

My other question concerns the buttplate. Or to be exact the buttpad. It is red-ish and I figure aftermarket. I cant read the writing on the bottom of it, it's too small. Any chance this is factory? I shouldn't think so, but...?

rooster,
Your M-17 was made on 1/ '26 the BT. The 3 indicates that it was returned to the factory for service on 6/ '31 the PZ. I can't say if the pad was factory or not. Remington did install red rubber pads made by Hawkins at some point in time, but I don't have information at hand as to the years they offered them.
