Model 11 year of manufacture
Model 11 year of manufacture
I have a model 11 with serial #115xx. It is a 12ga with a plain barrel. I can't seem to find what year this is made, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is Model 11 marked anywhere on your gun? If not you likely have a Remington Autoloading Gun, the John M. Browning designed autoloader that Remington introduced in 1905. In 1911 Remington Arms Co. was combined with Union Metallic Cartridge Co. as Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. and they began calling this gun the No. 11. If your gun says Remington Arms Co. it was made between 1905 and 1910. In 1920 the company became Remington Arms Co., Inc. and in 1934 controlling interest in Remington was acquired by DuPont. Sometime between the 1923 catalogue and the 1929 catalogue they began listing the gun as the Model 11.
In June 1907, barely two years after its introduction, Mr. Jefferson J. Blanks of Trezevant, Tennessee, won The Grand American Handicap shooting a Remington Autoloading Gun.
Remington must have made quite a few during that time frame as this is one of the most common questions on this site.
