Remington mod. 12 .22 cal. pump
Remington mod. 12 .22 cal. pump
I made an attempt to clean and oil my dads mod. 12 .22 cal. rifle and in haste i did'nt take pictures during the disassembly. I have the breech block, the action bar with the tube attached, the guard and all of it's components attached, and the retainer. I did not remove any pins from any parts. I guess what i need from your experience is an explanation as to how to reassemble this rifle. Photos would be helpfull. I did recieve a copy of an old parts list from remington headquarters and a rather fuzzy reassembly proceedure but it not very clear. Thanks to all who may help[/b]
Yea, I did the same thing the first time I dis-assembled mine. I assume you are having trouble getting the breech block to connect back to the action bar. First the action bar has to be inserted through the receiver and reconnected to the wooden piece you pump the action with (sorry I don't know the names of all the parts. The flat pin that looks a little like a pipe wrench has to be inserted before you slide the action bar through the receiver. The long notch on that pin faces toward the top of the receiver. Now bring the action bar forward as if you had just finished loading a new round and are ready to fire. Look at the inside top of the receiver. You will see a circular depression. With the rifle turned upside down, place the breech block in the receiver and slide forward until it falls down into this depression. Slide the action bar back. Push down on the pin that keeps it from moving back any farther and push it back that extra 8th of an inch or so. Give the breech block a small push from the other end. Now slide the action bar forward and the breech block should move with it. Sometimes it take 1 or 2 tries for it to work. Sorry I don't have any pictures. One of these days I'll join the 21st century and get a digital camera.
I went through this ordeal just this week. Just s;ide the action bar all the way back toward the stock and lay the breechblock into position so that it engages the two notches coinciding on the action bar, Now slide the action bar forward with the appropriate jiggle of the block at the same time and you will be in business.

I'm having a similar problem. I think I'm following the directions, but when I'm done the stupid retainer (pipe wrench looking thing) is loose in the receiver and jams everything up, or falls into the magazine. How do you get it to stay in place?
