Green Stock Remington 711P

Post by scharfshutzen »

Here is a good one for you. My girlfriend has been looking for a nice .22 to go plinking with (yep, I know it's good to have a girlfriend that likes to shoot :D ). She didn’t like my Barrett 82M1 nor my Remington 700 in 7.62 NATO. So Saturday she comes home from yard sale shopping and has a Remington 711P with a 3X10 BSA scope on it. Also included are two sets of rear peep sights and two mags. It has a round barrel with dovetail front sight and overall excellent bluing on it.

The down side is that the stock has been cut down and painted green. Yep, green! Not the flat camo green but a bright green! The weaver type base has been professionally attached by drilling and taping the receiver but the short stock makes it hard for me (6’1”) and my girlfriend (5’10”) to get behind the scope. I would like to buy a new stock for it but cannot find one in any of the conventional gunsmithing supplies outlets. Any ideas on where I might pick up a full size stock? If not I think I can machine a picitinny type rail to match the drill holes that would extend the scope 2 or 3” out. I still want to try to restore the stock to the original finish.

Last, but certainly not least, is the trigger pull is about 8-10 pounds but consistent. I did take the barrel and receiver off of the stock but could not find the trigger adjustment. The only thing that I found was a small grey block forward of the trigger that had two small holes drilled vertically in it but doesn’t appear to be any screws or adjustments in these holes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like a 511-P. Rem did not offer a 711-P that I know of...

Stocks are available from the parts guys and on the internet auctions.
