1858 Remington

Post by Greg »

I have a New Model Army in the 45,XXX range. It has the German silver cone front sight. At what number range did Remington stop using these and go to the domed front sight.
Also, what are the primary differences between the 1858 and 1863 Remingtons.

They supposedly switched from the Old Model to the New Model around 22000 however they used the old model barrels with cone sights intermitently long after that. I know of no definite number that changed from cone to pinvched sight. They apparenly had quite an inventory of the Old Model Barrels they wanted to use up. Jay Huber RSA

Jay,
Thanks for the information. Any idea when this gun would have been produced.

At the end of 1863 is our estimate of manufacture. Jay RSA
