did remington make an aluminum rifle/ I heard a story that they made 500 of these in .22 cal

Between 1958-'62 Remington produced the M-572 .22 Cal. in what they called "Light Weight Slide Action". It had an anodized Aluminum receiver and Barrel with a steel sleeve. It could be had in Buckskin Tan, Crow-wing Black, or Teal-Wing Blue. It also had what they called "Sun-Grain" wood. I don't know about production numbers. I believe there were more than 500.
