Model 31 Replacement Parts

Post by 300 Savage »

I have a Remington Model 31 16 gauge pump shotgun made in 1948. It has become my favorite shotgun and my go to gun for pheasant hunting and yes even trap shooting. I shoot a lot of skeet and trap and my clays gun is an expensive Italian O/U. I never shot a straight in trap until last fall when I was tuning up for pheasant hunting. I shot a straight with the model 31 with cheap promotional loads, a friend that I also hunt with asked if he could try the gun and shot his first straight in trap. Anyway, long story short, I want to start searching for some common replacement parts that I should have on hand for this 60 year old gun. Could someone with experience with this gun please let me know what I should start looking for on ebay? Firing pin, extractor, ejector, cartridge stop/latch? I have another friend that just had to replace a cartridge latch, so I guess that would be one of the parts I need in my inventory. I was able to find one on ebay. What else would you recommend? I am very good at firearm dissassembly and go out of town on pheasant hunting trips and would prefer to carry a few spare parts instead on an extra gun.

Thanks is advance 300 Savage

Not sure what parts you need but they also appear on GunBroker. There is an older Gunsmithing text I have that lists the usual spares. I will see if I can find it this weekend.

If it were me, I'd probably just try to find a whole spare gun, and sell off some of the stuff you don't want in your kit. You might actually come out ahead.

The info I found suggested that the 31 was pretty trouble-free (other old Rem pumps did not earn this compliment, quite the contrary) but suggested that if you were going to stock parts, extractors, ejector, and action bar release should probably do it, with maybe a hammer and trigger. HTH.
