1100 410 interchangeable barrels

I have a remington 1100 410, manufactured in the 1980's. It has a fixed full choke. I just bought an improved cylinder barrel for it but it won't fit quite right. The improved cylinder barrel is too tight on the piston rings and "o-ring". I can force it on but when I remove the barrel the rings come with it stuck inside the barrel lug. I thought the barrels would be fully interchangeable, and I wonder if I just polish out the barrel lug if it will be OK.
