Remington 600 in .223 REM
Remington 600 in .223 REM
Greetings. I have several model 600's. I am looking for someone to help me verify one of them. I have sent in a request to Remington Arms and this was their response:
Frontier Defense Group, LLC does not have full access to all historical Remington records including production statistics, serial number information, and dates of manufacture for specific Remington firearms. For historical research, you may also wish to contact the Remington Society of America
My father was a collector of Remington's and in the Model 600's I have calibers: .350 REM MAG, .222 REM, .223 REM, .35 REM, and 6.5 REM MAG. I am looking for any aficionados to help me identify and verify the .223 REM authenticity. I can attach any picts that would be needed. Thanks in advance.

If you post photos of the rifle, all of the stamps in the metal and if you can take the stock off and take pictures of the trigger assembly, I sure there are folks here who can help.

Thank for the pictures!
The final year of production for the Remington 600 was 1967. For the Remington 600 in .223 REM caliber, only 227 were produced and are considered the rarest of the calibers chambered.
Blue Book of Gun Values indicated that the Remington Standard 600 was never listed in a Remington Catalog. That confirmed my findings; looking through my Remington Firearms Retail and Jobber catalogs and price lists, the Remington 600 first appeared in the 1964 Remington DuPont Firearms Catalog on page 15, offered in 6mm Rem, 35 Rem, 308 Win, and 222. 1965 Jan 4th Remington Guns Dealer Price List, 1966 Remington Sporting Arms Retail Price List, and 1967 Remington Sporting Arms Ammunition and Trap Targets Price List, page 15, do not show the .223 Rem as an option. The 1968 Price lists make no mention of the Remington 600, as it was replaced by the Remington 660.
Your rifle was manufactured in the late second year of production (EM) October 1965, since the Remington 600 only produced the .223 REM in mass during the years of 1967 through 1968 and was never listed in any Remington Catalog; it is very likely that your rifle was a special order rifle, possibly from the Remington custom shop. Looking at the pictures you provided, everything is consistent with a factory-produced rifle. The serial number 40660 falls in the mid-to-late 1965 block of numbers (Remington 600 serial numbers began at the 10000 mark).
Hope this helps.

(Remington 600 serial numbers began at the 10000 mark). 1000 maybe, but not 10000.

You are correct; I got happy with my finger tapping the 0 key and put one too many. Thank you for the correction. Not sure why you would post this publicly, yet PM me for more infromation and validation. But I don't want to share that with the community.600RemGuy wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2026 4:51 pm (Remington 600 serial numbers began at the 10000 mark). 1000 maybe, but not 10000.
You are welcome, by the way.
