Dear Friends
A gun pictured bellow has recently been sold on an auction in Holland. Does anyone could tell me if is it original?
Does sporting cap and ball Remingtons 1858 really existed?
Who could have retrofitted this adjustable sihts? They are not original, are they?
This matter is very important for me as it may prove that adjustable iron sight were used in XIX century.
thanks in advance!

Re: Remington 1858 with adjustable sights
There were guns with adjustable sights in the 1800's, but the ones on that revolver weren't them.
It looks like someone did a pretty nice job of machining a spot for that modern rear sight - if it's an original Remington they shouldn't have done that though. The front sight is modern and to me, really ugly.

Sights appear custom made but relatively modern.
