Remington 7400 mag removal

Post by Rem700 Shooter »

Is there a secret squirrel code for getting the mag in and out of the 7400 without an act of Congress? With mine I have to ease the bolt forward while cocked and then it drops out. If the bolt is back, it wont drop out, if I pull the trigger after easing the bolt forward, nope. It must be cocked and bolt fwd to work.
Seems like a PITA.

When are we removing said mag? It can only be removed if 1) bolt is forward in battery, 2) mag has cartriges in it or 3) if the action is open and bolt is stopped by the "last shot" catch on the mag follower, by pulling back on the bolt and depressing the release-be careful as now the bolt will naturally move to battery.

Yes, that seems to be the way of it. I ride the bolt down after tripping the release as I hate having the bolt slam so hard on an empty chamber.
