Unknown Model 31

Post by WoodyUT »

I have a Model 31 (12 ga) with the alloy / alluminum reciever. The serial numbers match on both the barrel and the receiver although there are no letters attached to the serial number or with the marking "Model 31". Other markings on the barrel are "RSS 0-0" on the same side as the serial number. On the opposite side are the letters R.E.P. along with, what I can only describe as half circle stamp. There are no markings on the stock or foregrip. The stock was removed for cleaning and on the butt of the reciever is the serial number again along with the symbols "+" and "0". The serial number is 95XXX. Can anyone tell me anything about this particular shotgun, markings, etc.

Using the barrel code RSS says the barrel was made in November 1947. Your serial number should be between 72000 & 95000. The aluminum frame was introduced 1n the 1940 series gun at about 35073 serial number. making it a light weight model. Jay Huber RSA

Thanks Jay. This gun has been with me for several years now and holds great sentimental value. I just never knew much about it except that it was a fine shooter. Can you tell me what barrel lengths were produced for the 12 ga. ?
