Earliest lefty 700?

Post by 53gravely »

Hi, I’m a long time Remington fan and just joined as I have a good number of Illion’s fine rifles from a Michigan Troops to a rolling block to 541t and three 581, 721, 760 in 257, 513, 521, 66, 572,514…..pretty sure there’s no cure!

Just scored a lefty 700 in 30-06 at a Northern VT gun shop….drum roll….for $400. It’s certainly ain’t pristine, but still nice. Gonna see how it shoots. If it holds 1” it stays otherwise it gets blueprinted and gets a high end 25-06 barrel by a friend who used to build rifles for Palma National teams.

Barrel code is EW (Oct of 1972). Obviously they built a stockpile before they hit the catalog in 1973. Serial number 6,58x,xxx. Marked 700LH. Stock is symmetrical—no cheek piece.

Anyone know when they started making them?
Am I nuts changing it? Do early ones that aren’t pristine carry much worth? Thanks!
