I have a fair condition model 11 Sportsman 12 gauge with a skeet barrel. It's very heavy. I had my gunsmith strip the old finish off the forearm and butt stock. I am going to put an oil finish on it.
Decided not to add a recoil pad at this time. Maybe later. Stock has first coat of boiled linseed oil and looks great.
Trying to find info on manufacturing date.. Ser 404928

That Model 11 looks to be in fairly nice condition, maybe better than the usual find. I think you have a great find, congrats!

The Model 11/The Sportsman receiver with serial number 404928 was put in work during May 1938. It is hard to tell from your photos, but I think I see a date code PH on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the receiver -- P = June H = 1939. Above the date code I see a repair code CTT3 - C = April TT = 1948.

Re: Remington model 11 Sportsman twelve gauge
Thank you for researching the action and barrel dates. I really enjoyed preservation work on this shotgun. Thought about rebluing it, but the overall condition isn't horrible enough to resort to that. Unlikely that it's collectable even though I retained the 30" full choke plain barrel. I'm trying to get my son in law to build me a wall in the finished space over the garage and put all of my Remington's on display.
I am searching for a 20ga skeet model 58. They are like hen's teeth.
Thanks again for all that you do...
