1964 870 stock - could it be original?

Post by Webs86 »

Hey guys, new here.

Recently aquired a 1964 870 in nice shape.

The stock is pretty plain and has an R engraved in the but of the grip. I am thinking it is from the 90's.

Anyone know what year the stock could be from?

Thanks!

I don't know the year but it is much newer than 1964, it does look like a Remington product.

There should be a small gap between the front of the buttstock and the receiver. The older Remingtons used a Stock Bearing Plate(SBP) to create this gap, the gap prevents chipping of wood during recoil. Some later stocks were designed and built longer on the inside contact surface in lieu of the SBP. Sometimes during a stock swap the SBP is inadvertently left out when it should be installed, or installed when it shouldn't be which creates a too wide gap.
