Another Do You Have Request: Remington 550-1 with Year Date Code "RR", "SS", "TT", or "UU"

Post by usabaker »

Greetings folks! Back for yet more information if you are willing to share. If you are not already familiar with my research requests, I'm in the process of writing a book on the Remington 550 series of rifles, and while I have purchased 11 550s at this point, there is still data that I need (or another rifle I suppose), and I am reaching out to our community for information.

For those of you who have a Remington 550-1 with a Year date code of "RR" (1946) or "SS" (1947), "TT" (1948), "UU" (1949) Can you tell me if:

1. The bolt is a Transitional Bolt (Version B) or Late Bolt (Version C)? (See Picture Below)
2. Are the Buttplate Screws Slotted or Phillips type?
3. If you can help with these questions, what is the Month Date code of your rifle (B L A C K P O W D E R X)?

The date code is located on the left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver. The first letter is the Month, and the second two letters, "RR", "SS", "TT", or "UU", indicate the year.
.
Thank you in advance for your help!
