My dad purchased a Remington Model 700 22-250 new in 1967 if I remember correctly. He was an accomplished shooter as US Marine and an avid shooter as a civilian. He went through two barrels before having his favorite gunsmith glass in a SS barrel sometime in the mid 1970s. The original barrel that had the date code is long gone. The serial number is 167576. If anyone can determine the date of manufacture by the serial number I would greatly appreciate it. My dad gave me his firearms prior to passing away passed away and I am putting a history together that includes the details of each as well as the theirs and personal memories involving the various firearms he owned. I figure this is one of the ways to honor him and give insight to future generations.
Thank you!

Re: Remington Model 700 - Mfg. Date Help
Thank you! I believe I have it narrowed down to a 1965 or, at the latest, 1966.

Re: Remington Model 700 - Mfg. Date Help
I also have a 700 I need the date for. It has the original barrel with a date code of W U, which means it was made in August. The date could be 1971 or 2000. I know it is 1971 because it was my father's rifle. I was with him when he bought it.
The problem is that I need to prove it was 1971 because I wish to transfer it to another of my Dad's descendants who happens to live in California. I wish to do this by having the recipient get a C&R license. The rifle is 55 years old. It is eligible for C&R status if it was made in 1971, but not if it was made in 2000.
Is there a way to prove date of manufacture by serial number?
