Remington 1858
I recently found out my father in law had acquired a Remington 1858 in the mid 50’s to early 60’s in Chicago at an antique fair. Serial number 101774 with OWA cartouche on the handle. It is in fair condition with pitting and little to no finish. I am able to make out the inspection marks and most of the makers marks on top of the barrel. It needs a good cleaning. I see from the registry section on this site that it would have been delivered in Oct 1864. Is there anyway to know if it was issued and used in the war?

Re: Remington 1858
Can anyone help with my question above? Thank you in advance
Re: Remington 1858
One thing is sure. The cartouche on the grips is not original ! It has at least been re-engraved.

Does the serial number stamped on the trigger guard tab match?
