Remington 1100 Refinish

Hey all you Remington fans! I'm new to this site, so bear with me. My question is about my 1974 1100 12 ga. I'm planning to re-finish the stock, and wondered if any of you guys had any tips for me, like what's the best way to clean up the stock and what's the best finish to put on it. Also, I wonder if you can tell me how to get the grip cap off and where to find a new one. Finally, what would be my best option for a new recoil pad, and where can I find one?
