Remington 700 SPS 30.06/.308 QUESTION
Remington 700 SPS 30.06/.308 QUESTION
hey guys, newbie here, I was just wondering if the 700 SPS is good in 30.06 or .308. this would be my first gun, shot my cuzin's 30.06 and 45-70 while back in indy and fell in love with big bore rifles. i saw on gundirectory.com people saying how awesome the .308 is and such, i was jus wondering since this is a remington society, what you all think, if the SPS is n e good for starting (i do have some experience, just first gun and not ready to put out a ton of money) and if there is really a better caliber between 30.06 and .308?

There are no bad calibers made anymore. Some just do things better than others. You didn't say what you intended on using this gun for. If it was for hunting, I would go with the 30/06 due to the fact that there is a wide range of ammo made for it and it is good for any game in North America.
If all you wanted to do was shoot say 100 or 200 or 300 yards, the .308 Winchester would be just as good as the old '06.
Remember to put aside some money for a good scope and a good set of scope mounts. Always wear eye protection, along with ear protection and have fun.

Thank you, I am thinking just for range right now, .308 sounds like a great choice with this gun, and from what i have seen the ammo runs a little cheaper.
