stainless steel Model 1100

When visiting a classmate of my wife's recently after many, many years he showed me his unfired Remington mod. 1100 that was made of stainless steel. I'm sure that it was not a plating of some sort. It's a 2 3/4"
with fixed choke. He thought he'd bought it in 1996. Can anyone enlighten me about it please? I've never seen one of these cataloged. THANK YOU.

It never caught on.

It's not worth anything more unfired than if he used it everyday.
