I have recently inherited and maybe even rescued 12C that was my grandfather’s.
The stock was broken in the 40’s some time while my grandfather was in the pacific. I’m sure it was my 2 uncles who were responsible. After the “repair” the stock was stained some color that I have removed.
The question is was this salt blued or rust blued? The trigger guard appears salt blued but the barrel and receiver appear rust blued.

Re: Model 12C made in 1913
It should be salt blued. After many years the bluing takes on a patina that is kinda plum colored. This is normal and many people leave it alone as it is an honest finish and not something that has been changed.

Thanks for the reply.
I’m digging into some family lore about this and I want to preserve rather than restore
