Does anyone know if Remington ever built any of the Parker recreations they attempted in the late 80's? This morning, came across the promotional literature and order sheet for the gun, but I've never seen one.
The remaining one, serial number XS0606, made it to the PGCA, likely through Art Wheaton. It was auctioned off in a sealed bid auction closing September 30, 2005.
I suggest you fill out the order form and see what kind of reply you get from Remington. More than one of these guns were completed. With some luck, one still lurks in the Ilion factory and it may be offered to you.
The literatlure had the gun priced around $12K, which seemed like a lot of money then, but compared to the $45-50k for the latest re-creation, it would be a bargain
The parts that were contracted outside of the Remington factory to assemble these guns required extensive machining and fitting. Such work was beyond the capability of Remington employees when the cost factor was entered into the equation. The ones that were completed were done at great cost and reputedly with assistance from craftsmen outside of Remington employ. I have not seen any of the completed guns, but I have seen the raw parts that were to be used. I would not have liked to be in charge of a project to construct these guns on a $12,000 bottom line.
