Remington model 12 .22

Post by lytton »

Hi All,

I have a model 12 that has been in the family since purchase as far as I was told.
I believe it is 1912.
I know there are some true Remington experts on here and would love to know more about this rifle.
Serial number is 148614
I attached a couple of photos

Thanks, Mainspring.
I post some other pics later to see if that helps someone figure out what letter it may be.
All numbers seem to match.

So according to what I found on https://www.remingtonsociety.org/serials-model-12/ your rifle falls into the range of serials manufactured in 1912. I was currently going down the same rabbit hole trying to date my fathers, and my guns. My appears to be a 1911 where as my fathers is from 1936 and has completely different way of finding the date.

Adding some photos of my Model 12 that belonged with to my aunt or great-aunt (the story has been lost to the depths of time). Serial number 725866 which would suggest a manufacturing year of 1927. It has the fine smooth walnut with cut checkering and curved buttplate (like above) but without the scroll work and it has a 22” round barrel which (to my understanding) usually came on the lesser models.
If anyone has info or thoughts on the discrepancies I would love to hear them.
