Remington rolling block identification help

Post by thousandwords »

Hi everyone,

I am brand new to this forum and looking forward to share my love of firearms with this community!

I was wondering if I could be pointed int he right direction for some help figuring out when my Remington rolling block was made, and whether or not is black powder only or smokeless specs.

Chambered in 38-55.
Serial number seems to be 6441.

I have bought it from a gunsmith in upstate New York years ago, he was the organizer of an informal competition group, we would cast our own bullets and reload them on Saturdays and on Sundays we'd compete on off hand shooting at various distances between 100 and 400 yards.

Because of that I only shot black powder cast lead bullets, but I have become curious whether or not it was made in the smokeless era.

Here are some pictures I took when I last took stock apart for cleaning.
