Remington NMA- Date of manufacture and/or shipping date?

Post by bczrx »

Hello,

I have lucked into a Remington 1858 and want to be certain about the date of production and any shipment/use info anyone can find.

I am pretty new to black powder and don't even know where to search- other than here.

My serial number is 111667.

Standard 8" octagonal barreled 1858.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you
Model 34 .22lr, Model 572 .22lr, 870 12g SuperMag, 1864 NMA- and a variety of non-remingtons.

Hello bczrx,
Your revolver was manufactured in November of 1864. If it has small letters on various metal parts and a cartouche on the left grip it was accepted by the Ordnance Department and most likely shipped that month. Unfortunately there are no records to which person or unit the revolvers were issued.

Hello,

Thanks for the info. I don't recall a cartouche on the grips, but I assumed they were replacement grips since it is as old as it is.
