Hi,
I'm having difficulty installing the shell latch in my .410 Rem. 11-48. I could use some help. Secondly, where can I find a schematic of the .410 Rem. 11-48 and assembly details?

Re: .410 Rem. 11-48 Shell Latch
Numrich Gun Parts has schematics for many Remington and non-Remington firearms.
Assembly details are harder to come by, there might be some videos online and some books have assembly/disassembly info.
If you explain the issue you are having I might be able to assist.
Insert the front of the shell latch first, then press the shell latch into the recess in the receiver. Partially insert the front trigger plate pin, then install the trigger plate and finish the assembly.
The Remington 870, 1100 and 1187 are very similar, they can be used as guidelines for assembly.

Re: .410 Rem. 11-48 Shell Latch
Hi Mainspring,
For the 11-48,there's a lot of information out there for 20/16/12s, some for 28s but just about nothing for .410s. Schematics and instructions strictly for the .410 are non existent.
It's a recent acquisition. I disassembled the shotgun because I couldn't put a shell in the magazine. The latch was stuck in the cutout where it goes in the front of the receiver. I got it out okay but now I'm having a problem reinstalling. I can put the front of the latch in the cutout, pull back slightly on the bolt (like you would with a 28)so as to align the notch in the latch with the front pin hole in the receiver, but, the latch won't lie flat in its recess/channel in the receiver so that I can install the trigger group. It seems as though the latch may be bent. If so, should I try to bend it or try to stake it. If not, and it was meant to be this "springy", what's the trick for getting it to lie flat? Partially inserting the pin or punch isn't working. The latch just jumps off.
Thanks for your interest, Mainspring; and, any ideas you may have will be appreciated.

Re: .410 Rem. 11-48 Shell Latch
Many manufacturers will use one schematic for several variations, but part numbers will differ on parts that differ.
Assembly/disassembly will be the same regardless of gauge. The latch won't lie flat in it's recess because it is also a spring, but you should be able to press it into the recess with finger pressure. The .410ga can be a bit more difficult because of the smaller shell diameter, the shell latch has a longer reach to get to the shell.
Try inserting the trigger plate a bit further forward, and with the rear of trigger plate inserted first. Then rotate the trigger plate into the correct assembled position. You may need to realign the shell latch till the holes line up.

Re: .410 Rem. 11-48 Shell Latch
Good afternoon, Mainspring,
The .410 Rem. 11-48 is back up and running! With the bolt partially back, I dropped the latch in flat against the bolt and inserted the tip into its port/cutout in the front of the receiver, then rotated it 90 degrees up and positioned it in the receiver recess/channel with the latch notch aligned with the front pin hole. Then I pushed it flat and held it in place with the tip of a punch from the outside through the pin hole (that was a little tricky and took a few tries). I was then able to drop in the trigger assembly as prescribed and insert the two pins. Voila!
Thanks for your interest and help.

Re: .410 Rem. 11-48 Shell Latch
Glad you're back up and running. It's been a long time since I've assembled a 11-48, been going from memory for the difficulties with the .410ga.
I think the difficulties in assembly is why Remington started staking the latches in place on later models.
