Hello,
I recently inherited my grandfather’s Model 25 in 32WCF.
The underside is stamped AA 3890. Is AA the date code and 3890 the serial number?
Gun looks to be in quite excellent condition.
Can anybody tell me what I have?

The AA designates "frame size), AA was used on the Model 25, the frame is actually shared with the Model 12 which are marked "RW" over the serial.
What you have is an early Model 25 in near mint condition, fairly rare rifle, not many were made, and few are in that condition. Enjoy it but keep in mind if something goes wrong with it, parts are almost impossible to find, and there are few if any gunsmiths who could/would work on it. In fact, 99% of gunsmiths have never seen one.
I'm too lazy to go check but I think they only made these from about 1921-1935 with overall production less than 50,000. OH............yours is a rifle, they were made in carbine configuration, and carbines are quite rare.

On the left side of the barrel, in the area below 32-20 and towards the receiver, you will find two letters, generally followed by a symbol. Give me those two letters and I can tell you the month and year the rifle was made. For now, it was likely made in 1923 or early 1924............tom

Wow thanks everyone for the info! Here are the pictures of the markings on the barrel.
Are there collectors or museums that would have an interest in this type of gun? How would I get it appraised? Formally or informally?

Wonderful pictures. Your rifle was made in May, 1923. Enjoy it. They are a delight to shoot.

Can anyone make a recommendation on type of ammo to shoot or avoid for these guns?

The Model 25 first appears in the first Remington Arms Co., Inc. catalog, Catalogue No. 51.
The Model 25R Carbine is pictured in the 1923 Remington Arms Co., Inc. catalog.

Ammo is kinda hard to find and expensive when you do so you will just have to shoot what you can find . No currently manufactured ammo will hurt it.MisterX wrote: Tue May 14, 2024 12:11 pm Can anyone make a recommendation on type of ammo to shoot or avoid for these guns?
