Hi, I'm brand new to the group. I have a model 722 with barrel stamp A UU. Serial number is 605xx. It fits nicely in the list you have compiled as being made in March 1949. The problem being is that it's in 308 win chamber. Can someone help explain this because I thought 308 didn't come out till @1953? Thanks Brad

Manufacture date is March of 1949 by the date code !!

I have a 1975 700 in .222 (HS grad yr), when I saw this one is a 57 (birth yr) I couldnt pass it up, wish the sling studs werent added but oh well, love the history.

26"barrel, rear sight dovetail not threaded (sight missing), D&T'ed for scope mounts, Rec D&T'ed left side (stock not relived), Bolt full sn on bottom, M on front of right lug.

Stock: Plain, refinished, 244 stamped in stock channel (Julian date?) 20 in a square under butt plate, butt plate marked ALCOA G2 and D17015 on inside, sling studs added.

A couple of questions...
1. are rear sights available?
2. Barrel was very tight in stock, looks like poly, build up inside frt of barrel channel.
you can see the impressions in pic. Would it be better to sand that way? or do these like some pressure points in barrel channel?

Several years ago I was fortunate to be able to purchase 2 of Mike Walker's rifles. The first was his Mod 37 rimfire and the other was his favorite deer rifle. It was an early 1948 production 722 in 257 Roberts.
I would like to attach photos, but my 81yr old mind ain't figured it out. The 722 has a Lyman Alaskan 2.5 power with a post and swing away mounts to allow you to use the iron sights. The mod 37 has a barrel mounted 8X power I believe Lyman Target Spot. I know how to email photos, but cannot post them here.

I recently acquired a Model 725 in 30-06 with a date code EE for Oct. 58, ser # 707755
I have another enroute to me, ser # 708711, also 30-06. Will check date code upon arrival.

I also have a 721 in 30-06, date code BYY, Jan 52, Ser # 226056
