I am looking for a particular rifle and was wondering if I have my data correct. 700 BDL 7mm mag RH. I want the one from 1962 to 1970 . It has "stainless steel" stamped on the barrel (blued). The checkering was stamped and had a "French Emblem" at the end of the checkering. Do I have the years correct and are all the rifles the same during that period. New here, so I hope I'm not to wordy. thanks ED
Could be that what you have is a Model 700 Custom Bolt Action Rifle.
They were introduced in 1965
Same general specifications as the Model 700 BDL, except custom built, and available in different choice grades.
Each with a higher quality wood,different checkering patterns,engraving, high gloss blued finish.
There is a Model 700 C - grade 1
Model 700 C - grade 2
Model 700 C - grade 3
Model 700 C - grade 4
Model 700 D - Peerless Grade
Model 700 F - Premier Grade
The 7MM Remington Mag was introduced in 1962 (first year for 700). The "STAINLESS STEEL" stamp was started in 1963 but production started with a 23-1/2 inch stainless steel barrel. In 1964 the barrels went to 24." The Fleur-de-list impressed checkering was used on the BDL model. The "STAINLESS STEEL" stamp was used untill 1970. The Fleur-de-list pattern seems to have been replaced in 1969 ( not clear on that) The source of this information was John Lacy's book "The Remington 700" The 700 "C" had a better grade of wood with cut checkering.
