I told a friend I'd post this for him: He has a vintage Model 721 in 30-06 which he cherishes. Bought it a long time ago for a smokin' price. All in good shape except for the stock--which is why he got a great deal on it. A previous moron who owned it did his own 'decoration' on the stock, a crudely carved iron cross (a la biker), crude hand checkering, just a bunch of godawful stuff.
He is looking for a reasonably-priced replacement stock of walnut, doesn't have to be mint, just in passable shape, and original. Refinished, okay, but not wrecked by an amateur.
I've surfed all the usual suspects and haven't had much luck finding one.
Pls. email me directly if you know where there might be one, or post to the board. I'll forward it to him with your contact info. Thanks very much.

Vintage Remington 721 Stock
There are companies that manufacturers stocks that will fit a model 721 and are much better than an origional stock.
The one that I had in mind made several models all for around $150
A place to look for used stocks would be http://www.gun-parts.com

Model 700 stocks are not hard to find at gun shows. I have fit 721s into 700 stocks about 5 times. Cut a hinged floorplate into a couple as well. You have to cut and fit and carve chunks of scrap walnut around the safe area then five minute epoxy then in place. Tint the epoxy. The more time you spend on stockwork the better it will be

+1 on the 700 stocks. That is the easiest was to go if you can't find an original 721 stock.
The safety cutout is no problem, but the magazine difference must be addressed. The easiest/cheapest solution is get a model 700 ADL take-off stock (<$50), then buy a 700 ADL magazine box/spring/follower and an ADL trigger guard, which should also run under $50.
