The batch/serial# stamped on the bottom of the grip looks unusual to me, but I have not inspected many??

I have never seen an 1875 with the batch number stamped on the bottom of the grips. Since the font size is a different from the batch number stamping on the frame I suspect it was put there by the owner in order to be able to easily identify an individual revolver without having to remove the grips. Probably used the batch number as a rack number so a cross reference from batch number to rack number would not be necessary. I have a 44 Remington caliber 1875 with the number 26 stamped on the bottom of the frame next to the lanyard ring post which has a different font than the serial number.
