Finally after years of ignoring it I am getting my second 14.5 carbine (foolishly traded the first) ready to go to the range. With dummy rounds it will not load the cartridge from the magazine tube into battery every time. I am thinking its a weak magazine spring? But maybe there is something else going on? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

The carbine in question -

90% of all loading problems are because of reloads, usually a hair too long.
Failing that, its probably a weak carrier dog spring.

Thanks Jim. What about cartridges that are a tad too short? Of the three dummy cartridges one measures 40.06 mm and the other two are 39.65 and 39.8.

In general being a bit too short is OK, set your dies using factory rounds from
the 60's or 70's and you should be OK.
As far as the carrier dog goes, it should spring back/forth with some vigor.
If it does not or just lies there then the spring should be replaced, after all the spring is 100 years old, and its amazing they still work at all.

Numrich doesn’t have one in stock. Are there other parts houses I can try? Thanks!

I have new made ones and good used ones in stock. Is yours not functioning properly or do you just want to replace it. They can be tricky to install.
